Learning Support Assistant

A vacancy has arisen at a primary school on the outskirts of Carmarthen for a welsh speaking teaching assistant with the knowledge and experience to support teaching and learning throughout the Primary age range .

The school is looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic teaching assistant with a flexible attitude to support the inclusion of students with a range of behavioural and learning needs. Experience of working in literacy, numeracy and social intervention programmes would be advantageous. The successful candidate will:

Be enthusiastic and positive.
Have a willingness to develop new skills.
Have English and Mathematics GCSE
Have the ability to work well in a team.
Have a knowledge of how to support children’s learning, especially in phonics, reading, Mathematics and language skills.
Have previous experience of working in a primary school classroom.
Have good verbal and written communication skills.
Have the ability to support children both emotionally and behaviourally.
Have the ability to support children’s speaking and listening skills.
Have the ability to develop positive relationships with colleagues, parents and children.

Job Description

1:1 Learning Support Assistant to start as soon as possible until the end of the Summer term in a Llanelli school. An an enthusiastic, committed teaching assistant to work supporting a child in the Nursery. The successful candidate will have considerable, recent experience of working 1:1 with children in the primary sector, with a background that has involved specifically working with children with significant learning needs requiring behavioural and learning support. The successful candidate will be someone who is able to:

Work on a one to one basis with a child with additional learning needs.
Act in accordance with school policies, procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection, health and safety advice and behaviour management.
Contribute in conjunction with the designated teacher, to the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes for individuals.
Participate in the delivery of local and national initiatives.
Monitor and contribute to the assessment and recording of the child's development, including keeping observational records where appropriate. Be involved in the sharing of this information.
If required participate in and contribute to staff meetings.
Give general support to school activities.
Prepare support materials
Contribute to the preparation and tidying of classrooms and outdoor areas.
Contribute to enhancing the classroom environment, e.g. mount and display work / information for children and adults.
Exercise supervision of children during the school day, inside and outside.
Promote development and learning in the areas of physical, emotional, and social education.
Provide a secure, caring and enriching environment for the children.
Develop good relationships with children, parents and other professionals.
Encourage acceptance, respect and inclusion of all children.
